Banger of a day in the saddle as we hit double digits, Day 10 of 27 cycling from Smithfield to Oviston nestled on the southern bank of the Gariep Dam in the Eastern Cape, about 8km from Venterstad. Smashing a whopping 132km cycle and 910m of climbing.

The day was meant to be a small 120km cycle, but seeing as CJ will be leaving the tour tomorrow, and just loves being in the saddle, With the help of Google maps I lead the team another 12km on the suggested route. Apparently there was a shorter route 🤷🏻‍♀️ who knew? Needless to say, CJ has nominated me for D.O.D.

Leading the pack, and then pulling way ahead, as any other day, CJ only 30km in was on his phone again filming from the saddle. While I encourage extra footage, I did warn him of the possible outcomes of these antics. CJ couldn’t help himself, with a chirp as he cruises past the support vehicle “It’s worse than watching paint dry.” I know its only because he wants to get as much tar in before tomorrow’s departure back to Durban for an op. We wish him well and a speedy recovery, and will miss the cracking whip.

Unfortunately Badgers place of shelter, the trusted Cruiser departs tomorrow too, Alas as his company was educational with a touch of sarcastic antics about anything and everything at the same time.

Having seen our accommodation across the lake brought a tear to Dave’s eye. Little did he know it was another 40km around the lake to get to it. Nothing like a tease near the end of the day.

Deidre had to lay down the law a few times, as Dave insisted he was not riding in the middle of the road. The only driving Dave was doing today, was driving Deidre up the wall.

As we end the evening off at Siloam Village, having a team dinner, we can’t help but reflect on the 10 days of riding, and what’s still to come. Tomorrow we ride out to Steynberg.

Till then. Spread the love. Support the cause.
